Following the release of Metro Exodus in 2019, franchise fans have been left in the dark about what’s next for the franchise.
Save for Metro Awakening, which was a virtual reality game and developed by another studio, there hasn’t been any announcement on the franchise’s future.

Every Metro Game Ranked From Worst To Best
This is the pinnacle of survival shooters, but not all entries live up to the franchise’s legacy.
That could be changing soon — at least according to Reddit sleuths who think they have figured out when we can expect an official announcement from developer 4A Games.
Next Metro Entry Might Be Announced Soon Based On Fan Theory
According to Reddit user Revendi, 4A Games’ X (formerly Twitter) account recently came back to life after hiring a Community Manager recently. This happened just a month before Gamescom kicks off, which has led the user (and others) to believe that something Metro-related will be announced at the event.
While the theory makes sense, it could also mean that 4A Games just recently managed to find someone to man the studio’s Twitter/X account.
That said, it’s more fun to theorize, no? And you have to admit, the timing would be perfect given Gamescom would be the perfect venue to announce a new game in the franchise.

The Steam page for La Quimera is live.
While the Metro franchise has remained dormant for quite some time now, former 4A Games developers left the company and started a new studio called Reburn. The studio recently released a spiritual successor of sorts to the Metro franchise titled La Quimera, which is a competent shooter, but hasn’t come close to Metro’s quality based on our review.
Gamecom will kick off on August 20 and run till August 24, with the Opening Night Live event set on August 19. This day will be the big one, as it’ll have almost all the announcements and reveals take place in that one event.
If a new Metro game is announced, expect it here on DualShockers.
