How To Change Your Name

Valorant players love playing around with their usernames. Some players like to stick with their initial usernames for eternity. That’s because the in-game friends may not recognize the player with a different username. However, there are several players who created their usernames when the game just arrived, and now, they may not be completely satisfied with their in-game name.

In fact, several players like to change their names occasionally in Riot’s popular FPS title to keep things fresh. The process isn’t that difficult, but the option to change the username doesn’t really appear in Valorant’s game settings either.

What Is A Riot ID?

Riot ID explained

Before learning how to change your username in Valorant, it’s crucial to understand what a Riot ID is because changing the username will also affect your Riot ID. A Riot ID is basically comprised of your username and a unique hashtag or tagline, which can hold 3-5 alphanumeric characters.

In Valorant, only your username is visible to people who aren’t on your friends list, so this is basically your in-game name. However, your full ID (Username and Tagline) is used to find your friends across the Riot network. For instance, players will need my full Riot ID, SnarkyGoblin#1234, to send me a friend request or find me across the Riot network. But only my username, SnarkyGoblin, will be visible to players on my playercard.

You can see your RIOT ID by going to the friends list section, hovering your cursor over your profile, and then clicking on your RIOT ID.

Can You Change Your Riot ID?

Yes, you can very well change your full Riot ID, including your unique Hashtag. If my current RIOT ID is SnarkyGoblin#1234, I can change it to GoblinSnarky#AIM or anything else for that matter. However, you should know that Riot only allows you to change your Riot ID once every 30 days. So, you can’t go too crazy and keep changing your username every couple of days.
