Today, NetEase announced that Marvel Rivals’ fourth season will launch next week on September 12. While that, in itself, is good news for the player base, there’s more good news, and it involves last-gen players.

NetEase has also confirmed that Marvel Rivals will also be available on last-gen on that day, though just for Sony’s PS4.

While the PS4 and Xbox One are relatively similar systems in terms of hardware, NetEase didn’t bother to develop an Xbox version, which is baffling, to be honest.

Marvel Rivals PS4 Version Releasing The Same Day As Season 4 Kicks Off

Season 4 of Marvel Rivals kicks off on September 12, and this brings a new Vanguard hero in Angela! The trailer also reveals that the second hero dropping within the season is the Man Without Fear, Daredevil!

Alongside the new heroes, there’s also a new map, new mode, and a bunch of quality-of-life features too.

Players can expect NetEase to streamline the game’s UX (user experience) as well, with Conquest, Doom Match, Conquest (Annihilation), Free Fight, Giant-Size Brain Blast, and Clone Rumble all accessible from a single Arcade Mode hub.

There will also be a new “Favorites Bar” added to the game, where players can pin their most played heroes for easy access. This is dead useful given the roster’s expanding size.

When it comes to the PS4 version, NetEase hasn’t shared details about it. We’re unsure for now how it will look graphically, or more importanlty, how it will play given the console’s dated hardware will have a hard tiem processing all those character ability effects when it happens all at once. Heck, the PS5 has issues keeping up with it from time to time, so what more its older sibling, right?

In other Marvel Rivals news, it seems there is a chance that we could get original heroes designed by NetEase to appear in the game. Although that might be somethig the player base might not want to see, given there’s a ton of Marvel characters that deserve to be in the game.

With Marvel Rivals headed to PS4, surely this means we’ll see it on the Switch 2, right? Apparently, the developers are having issues getting Switch 2 devkits, which further adds to the hurdles of porting it to Nintendo’s latest platform.
