MindsEye Owners On PS5 May Be Able To Get Refunds

The MindsEye launch has been a total mess, but at least there’s some recourse for PS5 owners.

Sony has approved refunds for MindsEye on PS5 after a disastrous launch, which is crawling with game-breaking bugs.

Developer Build a Rocket Boy has promised that fixes are on the way, with the first one to prioritize performance fixes, along with addressing some players’ missing DLC that they should own.

It’s a rare case for Sony to offer refunds, with the most high-profile recent example being the PS4 version of Cyberpunk 2077, which even ended up being delisted from the PS Store, implying the same could happen with MindsEye.

In the wake of the extreme performance issues and negative reception, Build a Rocket Boy seems to be in full damage control mode, even going so far as to abruptly cancel sponsorship plans for streamers.

Kotaku’s Ethan Gach spotted one such case, where streamer CohhCarnage received an email to cancel his sponsored stream right before it was scheduled to start, after changing his stream title and even launching the game.

“My sponsored stream was supposed to start at 8:00,” the streamer said.

I opened up MindsEye, and as it was loading, my management contacted me and said, ‘The sponsor does not want to do this right now. They would like to reschedule.’ And I said, ‘Oh. [laughs] That’s a first.’ –CohhCarnage

He goes on to say, “It sounds like, for MindsEye, that was the right decision.”

Things have only been getting worse for MindsEye and its developer Build a Rocket Boy.

DarkViperAU, another streamer, didn’t have his stream suddenly canceled, but was unable to get through his sponsored segment without breaking out laughing as he told viewers where they could purchase the game.

It’s a dire situation for MindsEye, but we’ve seen games recover from this sort of launch before. That being said, for every game that eventually becomes a masterpiece, there are dozens that fall by the wayside and are forgotten, so history isn’t exactly in MindsEye’s favor.

For now, hopefully, Microsoft will follow Sony’s lead in issuing refunds to unsatisfied players on their platforms, and the upcoming MindsEye fixes will do their job.
