PlayStation Plus Extra’s Latest Games Lineup Pulls Sony Out Of 3-Month Funk

Summary

  • March saw a 10% increase in PS Plus subscribers due to Extra and Premium offers attracting more players.
  • PS Plus March free games, UFC 5 & Prince of Persia, are top-rated genres, boosting player engagement.
  • Redeem March free games now to ensure you have them in your collection before they’re replaced in April.

Even with Sony lording it over this generation of consoles, the company isn’t immune to losing players, which has been the case the past few months for their PlayStation Plus subscription service.

For the past three months, PS Plus has been bleeding players for Sony, though that changed with this month’s Extra and Premium offers that seem to have attracted more gamers to sign up once more.

PlayStation Plus Sees Subscribers Uptick By 10% In March

The data from TrueTrophies (in collaboration with Game Trend) can track the debut player count of every PS5 and PS4 game that launches on Sony’s PS Extra and Premium subscription services.

Using a sample size of over 3.4 million PlayStation Plus subscribers, the data shows a huge increase in active PS5 and PS4 players compared to the player count in February 2025. This turnaround is made even more significant since the February 2025 PS Plus numbers are the lowest for the service in over a year.

This means that March 2025’s PS Plus titles are some of the most popular of the year. In case you didn’t know, the PS Plus March free games were EA Sports UFC 5 and Metroidvania game, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown.

Surpringsly, UFC 5 proved to be the more popular game of the two, with an 11.5% difference in the turnout between the duo of free games. If you rank them from the PlayStation Plus games from last year, they both crack the top 10 in popularity.

#1 — Dead Island 2 (October 2024)

#2 — Dave the Diver (April 2024)

#3 — The Plucky Squire (September 2024)

#4 — The Last of Us Part I (September 2024)

#5 — God of War Ragnarok (January 2025)

#6 — Police Simulator Patrol Officers (June 2024)

#7 — EA Sports UFC 5 (March 2025)

#8 — Dying Light 2 (November 2024)

#9 — Sonic Frontiers (December 2024)

#10 — Prince of Persia The Lost Crown (March 2025)

While this is based on a sample size and not the entire PS Plus subscriber data, it’s still reliable given the amount of players surveyed in the country.

Both UFC 5 and Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown are topnotch games in their respective genres. Our review of The Lost Crown spoke highly of art direction and combat, as garnered a pretty high score from us.

As for UFC 5, while our review didn’t score it as highly as The Lost Crown, it is the only Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) game available on the console that’s still getting support, so fans will flock to it regardless of whether it’s a good game or not. Thankfully, it’s not a terrible game by any means, and I suggest checking out our review to see if it’s worth clearing your disk space for.

You still have time to redeem the games before another batch of free games replaces them for April. I suggest “redeeming” them now, so you can have the game in your collection so you can download it whenever you want as long as you’re an active PS Plus subscriber.
