Key Takeaways

• Limited edition White Steam Deck OLED announced by Valve
• White Steam Deck OLED with 1TB SSD available worldwide on Nov 18, 2024.
• Scalpers will probably mess up the launch.

Valve has announced that a limited edition White Steam Deck OLED is coming to the market. However, it’s a single-run item, which means everyone will have to be quick on the draw if they want to own one.

Unlike the seemingly never-ending wait for the Nintendo Switch 2, Valve has been candid about not fully revising the Steam Deck. There are iterations of existing hardware, like the regular Steam Deck OLED, but no successors.

In a surprise move, Valve announced that a new kind of Steam Deck is on the way. The White Steam Deck OLED has a white case, comes with 1TB of SSD storage, and will retail for $679/£599.

The White Steam Deck OLED can be purchased on the hardware’s official website from November 18, 2024, at 3:00 pm PST. It will be available worldwide.

Scalpers Are Probably Going To Ruin The White Steam Deck OLED Launch

It’s hard to get excited about a new Steam Deck when everyone knows that scalpers and bots will be gobbling up every order and putting them on reseller sites as soon as the sales go live.

It’s even harder to get excited when it’s easy to buy a set of white decal stickers for the regular Steam Deck. Anyone who has a tricked-out Steam Deck with the games already loaded would benefit more from the stickers.

Despite all this, the White Steam Deck OLED might entice people who don’t already own one of Valve’s handheld computers. The fact that a Steam Deck 2 doesn’t seem to be on the cards means that existing models aren’t going to be phased out anytime soon.

There is a spark of hope, as seen by the PS5 Pro’s lack of second-hand interest-harming scalpers. Hopefully, the false allure of a white case for a commonly available device will stunt the interest in the game, and second-hand sites will have to reduce the price.
